The under-14 subunit of the Lion City Sailors have etched their brand on Europe with their impressive 27-0 victory over their German opposites Luner SV. The Singapore Premier League football champions walked out triumphant from the friendly game in North Rhine-Westphalia last November 10.
The victorious match
The Sailors jumpstarted the soccer live score game following the 40-second mark and were 16 goals ahead at half-time before the 60-minute match ended.
The aforementioned match against the German side was a part of their European campaign of 42 days where they are also undergoing training and are scheduled to play 12 games.
It was also their first 11-manned game for nearly two years since the coronavirus restrictions happening in Singapore had put the game opportunities scarce.
The game was also their perfect opportunity to be accustomed to the colder climates of Europe, before they will move forward with much more challenging feats in the weeks to come.
A few of the European teams that they will face are the young subunits of Dutch teams Utrecht and Feyenoord, and the Belgian youth squad Genk.
The tour with a plan
Upon arrival in Germany on Sunday, the Junior Sailors also took a tour within the halls of the Signal Iduna Park, the ground territory of five-time Bundesliga winners Borussia Dortmund.
Back in July, the team, who is aiming towards becoming one of Asia’s best football squads, have recently signed a two and a half year deal with Borussia Dortmund.
The main goal of the project is to build modern facilities for Singapore’s budding youth football community and to provide the youths with athletic improvement and support through the fields of sports medicine, analytics, sports science and talent pooling.
Partnership with Dortmund
The project also sought out opportunities to provide young Singaporean athletes with youth development projects, coaching, instructive and professional reciprocations via football training camps in the German nation and other projects involving the collaboration of the two football clubs.
“We couldn’t contain our gladness and how proud we were to associate our brand with the Lion City Sailors, we have known for a while now that they are the best side in the Singapore Premier League,” According to Benedikt Scholz, the Head of International and New Business and Managing Director of BVB Football Academy.
“We at Borussia Dortmund, one of our permanent goals is to collaborate with partners like Lion City Sailors to build projects of this magnitude and quality, it also provides us opportunities to share our resources and to contribute in the development of the youth football community in the East. We are so excited to work with LCS to realize our visions in youth development and sports coaching,” he added.
The deal is set to build a training camp in Borussia Dortmund for the exclusive team of LSC Football Academy, these selected athletes will undergo a professional training via scholarship program of the Academy and also will provide the youths with annual events.
Ambition to be the best in Asia
The Junior Sailors couldn’t contain their excitement for the partnership and its massive ambition to provide professional training from the experts at Borussia Dortmund and to help LCS Football Academy to hone the skills of the youths to become what they are supposed to be.
According to Chew Chun-Liang, the Chief Executive Officer of LCS, he said, “We are ecstatic to be a part of a partnership with BVB, a winning club that has presented a sheer commitment to the youth welfare, fan support and the development of German sports”.
“In return, we will continue to work hard to be the best youth football club in the Asia-Pacific region. Our vision drives us to work harder to stay on top. We are lucky to have Borussia Dortmund at our side, to emulate their success and to learn more,” he added.
